Our favorite words often reflect our individual experiences, values, and aspirations. They can encapsulate the essence of who we are or who we aspire to be. Whether it's a word that captures a cherished memory or one that rolls off your tongue, your favorite word holds a mirror to your soul..
One of my favorite words is serendipitous because it encompasses so many of my life’s experiences and I love the way it rolls off my tongue. You may have heard me say before that my life is magical! Let me share a travel story that explains why this is true.
I recently traveled to Belize with two of my dearest sistafriends. They are badass; badass as in one of them once rode her motorcycle from the DMV to Florida. The other recently drove cross country and is also responsible for encouraging me to take my first solo trip over 15 years ago.
Throughout our trip, I would randomly ask, “How does it get any better than this?” and “What else is possible?”
My girlfriends and I met up in San Pedro and spent a few days there. Then we rented a car and drove to Hopkins and Placencia where we spent a few more days. Ok, for the record, I did not drive but was the designated DJ for all of our road trips…lol.
While in Placencia, I was able to connect with another sista who recently moved to this beautiful island from Atlanta. On one of our day trips to Placencia, my friends and I decided that we would take the Hokey Pokey Water Taxi over to Independence, a little town located west of Placencia. We heard it was a beautiful way to watch the sun set.
We mentioned our plans to my friend Nikki, who shared that was not what we wanted to do. In fact, her response was “Oh no, you don’t want to do that!” Meanwhile, the entire morning I was constantly asking (albeit silently), “How does it get any better than this?” and “What else is possible?”
Nikki mentioned that she and her friends were planning to take a catamaran to watch the sunset and invited us to join them. I thought, “How does it get any better than this?” Our plans to watch the sunset in the Caribbean on the day of the solar eclipse had expanded from the hokey pokey water taxi on a lagoon to a catamaran on the sea.
We spent the early evening on the catamaran munching, laughing, dancing and listening to the sounds of nature, as dolphins played in the sea and the beauty of the sun dipping behind the clouds into the horizon left us in awe. What a beautiful beginning of the end of an amazing day! As I took it all in, I thought, “How does it get any better than this?”
In that moment, life was serendipitous!!! This is what else was possible!
